Baby bubble dress

Wait, thats not the dress pictures! That's a picture of the hubbs and his 3 catches! He was probably just as proud of that fish as I was of that dress!

Baby girl bubble dress. Too bad I don't have a girl to try on this dress for me!
I started off with some really cute fabric on clearance from Hobby Lobby. I cut it 1.5 times longer than the tank top below because I was going to make it into a ruffle. So it needs to be longer to start with.
Next, I bought a tank top from the thrift store so all in all I have in expenses is about $3 into this dress.
I sewed the top part of the fabric to have a finished edge.
Then I set my sewing machine to the loosest setting to baste a stitch onto the fabric to create a ruffle.
When you baste, that leaves you 2 pieces of thread at both ends. (By the way, you do not want to double stitch either sides) Just pick an end and pull one of the pieces of thread until you have a good ruffle going.

Then sew the right sides together. I ended of having some extra fabric on the end because of the ruffling, so I just cut it off.
Then I just sewed the bottom to the tank top.

I had to shorten the straps which left me with some funky looking straps so I decided to cover them.
I cut a square of fabric and sewed all 4 edges around the straps.
Right here is a picture of how it looks, there is extra fabric in the middle of the strap because I create a ruffle next.
After it is sewn on all 4 edges, I sewed a stitch through the middle and pulled it tight to ruffle it.
This is the outcome and I looks much better than before!
Next I thought the neck of the dress looked lonely, so I cut this fabric, ruffled it, and sewed it to the dress.
